Organic agriculture is the chemical-free process of agriculture from production to consumption, where each stage is carefully monitored and certified. The main purpose is to provide healthy nutrition without polluting the air, water, soil resources and protecting the environment. Modern production techniques that have no harm on the environment and to human health are being used for organic agriculture.

Organic agriculture is not merely a source for food production. It also supports sustainable agriculture and development, eco-tourism, biodiversity conservation, erosion, combat against desertification and climate change.

Organic agriculture prevents soil erosion, maintains water quality, saves energy, minimizes negative effects of chemicals on human health, protects agricultural workers’ and farmers’ health, assists small farms, supports the economy, helps obtaining higher-quality crops, and protects future generations.

Producers should work with certification bodies and get certified for organic agriculture. The certification body will confirm each stage of production, and carry out inspections throughout the year. At the marketing stage, the certification body’s guarantee logo is placed on the package.

Organic agriculture production methods are getting widely applied. There is a growing interest in organic products in large cities as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. The prices are usually 30-50% higher than conventional products, and the production capacity is 25-30% less. Small-scale producers did not enter the organic market due to such reasons.
