Wine and cheese are regularly served together due to their matching flavors. However, there are some rules to keep in mind for such harmony. For neither flavor to suppress the other, red wine should be served with hard cheese and white wine with soft cheese.

Soft white cheese and salty cheeses will suppress the flavor of the wine, thus are not good for serving with wine.

French-origin cheeses such are brie, camembert, emmental, and cheddar are often served with wine. These soft and low-salted cheeses do not suppress the wine taste. Kasseri, string cheese, herby cheese, and goat cheese from Turkish cheeses can be good for serving with wine. If salty hard cheese should be selected, they can be served with fruits for a matching flavor with wine.
